We Can All Be Successful

Your friend turns to you and says “Yeah, he/she is very successful” when talking about how a certain someone has been doing recently. Instantly, you assume that said person is making the big bucks, do you not? There’s nothing wrong with that, it’s just how people think nowadays. To many people, success is measured in terms of one’s material wealth and social status. However, it does not have to be, nor should it be. In order to truly achieve success, it is essential to do what you truly desire on your own terms, separating your own self-image from the opinions of others.

What does success look like to me? Success to me can be anything that you put your mind to and work towards accomplishing. For me, success is being consistent with good habits and having productive days, wasting minimal time on things that don’t better my state of mind, because at the end of the day, time is all we really have. Success to me is one day owning my own business, being able to afford a nice condo with a nice view of the city, and being surrounded by a strong and loving circle of friends, family, and a little English bulldog. I’d also like to have enough money so I can take some time off to relax, and be able to kick back with some good company, food, and music. Although success to me does contain some material items and things that may seem to contribute to one’s social status, I have shared my idea of it for all intents and purposes to show the simplicity of how anyone can attain success through goal setting.

How so? Well, here is the definition of success.

With that being said, success can be composed of many things rather than just social status or wealth. You just need to do what it takes to reach your accomplishment of aim or purpose. It’s as easy as setting a few short term and long term goals for yourself.
Here are a few things to keep in mind when goal setting.

S.M.A.R.T
Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely.
We’ve all done this before, you know the drill.

Perfect You?
Write notes on what you would like your future to look like 10 years down the road…Who, What, Where, How?

Work Backwards
Start with your 10-year vision and work backward so that your short term goals build up to it smoothly. Accomplishing smaller short term goals will give you the confidence and sense of reward to make constant progression towards bigger aims.
Ex: Write out a list of things you would like to accomplish by 2027, then a list of smaller things that would build up to that result for 2022, ending with more specific and short-term goals for the end of this year that would be considered a start.

Things Change
Don’t be afraid to adjust and change your mind on goals. At the end of the day, there is no specific blueprint for your success. It’s a race against yourself, no one else.

Keep What You Want Close
Whether it be posted on your wall or in a book you refer to here and there, keep your goals around to remind yourself of what you’re aiming for and stay motivated. These reminders will prime your brain every day to strive for excellence and will perpetuate hard working behaviors.

Goal setting and keeping tabs on my progress has worked wonders for me and can do the same for you. Like I said, Anyone can be successful…. It’s easier to get somewhere when you know where you’re headed.
